Stolen internet is currently holding up quite well.

I am an unsatisfied Cox Communications customer.

As happens anytime we have weather (which apparently happened this weekend while I was gone), my cable modem (and television) is on the fritz. We had problems last month, which worked themselves out before the cable guy showed up. The cable guy futzed around in the apartment, declared that everything was a-okay, and l got charged $50 for the pleasure. [Eric is currently calling about this. He was not too happy when I told him…um…just today.]

Today I called to report an outage. This seems to be something that isn’t really done anymore. An outage is a technical problem. There’s no “thanks for notifying us, ma’am” and “we’ll clear that right up.” Instead, it’s “If we find a problem in-home, we’ll charge you another $50. Or would you like to sign up for our insurance for $3.95 a month so when we repeatedly futz around your apartment we won’t charge you $50.” Honestly, if their service is so bad I need to buy insurance from them to defray my costs, is this a service I actually want? I talked to two people, one for my cable, one for my broadband.

“Is it possible that this is due to something outside my apartment?” I asked.

“I really can’t say over the phone” was the answer. But it sure is being assumed over the phone that the problem is in my apartment.

It didn’t used to be this way, I had called in years past concerning outages and generally they already had a guy in the area fixing it. Maybe it’s just me with the outage and the wiring in the apartment building is crap. I just want them to fix my damn internet.

Anyway, the anger over that propelled my through unpacking this morning. I have not eaten though. I am currently using appropriated bandwidth from some other wireless connection in the area. And I can’t figure out how to choose a different wireless connection on my desk top, so I’m using the laptop.

The rest of yesterday was spent eating, playing computer games at an internet cafe, and driving back.  I did slip in a walk around Old Town.  Hope Chris passed his run this morning.
