Cynicism, disc, weather, writing.

Coke Puts Calories Front and Center
While reading this blurb for Coke’s new packaging, I realized how cynical I’ve become about any company’s attempts to voluntarily provide nutritional information to the consumer. Looking at the not-very-clear picture of the label, it seems to say 100 calories / 8oz. I suppose this is okay for a 1 liter bottle where portions will be decanted. But, a 20oz bottle is considered by most people to be one serving; no matter that the 20oz’s nutritional information says that it’s 2.5 servings. Will Coke have the guts to state the calories for the entire 20oz bottle? Or will they take the route that makes them look good, knowing that most people will only see the 100 calorie marking?

SF/LH won a game Thursday night. We played some zone defense, which gave us an early lead. Unfortunately, Bob (one of our younger, faster guys) planted wrong during a cut and broke a bone in his foot. It’s a rare day when someone breaks a bone playing ultimate and SF/LH has had two such casualties. Alas. Woe. This weekend is regionals, held here — well, up in Scottsdale. Eric’s going to pick up with the “welcome wagon” masters team for a couple games tomorrow. I am, of course, not playing. And considering my joints have been in pretty good shape lately, I’m not sad about that. This coming week, our game is on Tuesday, so we’ll probably have a short roster.

The weather has finally cooled down. We had nine sub-100 degree days in September, none below 90. It was beginning to remind me of when we first moved here. And as I think about it, it’s pretty much the ten year anniversary of the Great Move. Yes, I’ve lived in the Valley of the Sun for a decade, and have enjoyed most of it. It got much better once I started playing ultimate frisbee. Too bad that it’s a tad bit too hard on me.

Been working on Model Species. polishing the rough spots. It’s going well, I guess. I’d like to do NaNoWriMo this year, but currently Eric and I are idea poor. He’s tossing around thoughts about a post-apocalyptic setting, so maybe I’ll be departing from Weordan for a month. I haven’t decided whether that would be a good idea or not.
