7. Do you listen to music while you write? What kind? Are there any songs you like to relate/apply to your characters?
I sometimes listen to music; I sometimes put on movies or television shows. Music-wise, it’s whatever I’m binge-listening to at the moment. TV/Movies-wise, documentaries, non-annoying reality shows, and horror movies are the norm. All of these can be easily tuned out. Occasionally, a novel will spark interest in certain movies. While writing Model Species, I watched Se7en and The Talented Mr. Ripley way too often. A while back I had matched up some Cake songs to Divine Fire characters, but generally, I don’t think of characters in terms of music. Pas de Chat does involve music directly: Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet. In Luck for Hire, Aleister listens to a lot of music. Deciding his musical tastes is an interesting task.
