#WWReadathon

WRAP-UP

Kind of a disjointed week. Didn’t feel all that well for most of it. Therefore, pretty much in hermit mode too. I missed the Twitter chats and wasn’t feeling my book-cover zen for challenges. Read ~477 pages mostly things not on my list. (Shocker!) Not bad, not as good as I would have liked.

Wicked Valentine's Read-a-Thon

The Wicked Valentine’s Read-A-Thon is a time when we all get together to dedicate the days of February 7-14 to as much reading as possible. You read as much as you can in order to get yourself a little further through that huge to-read pile! We know real life gets in the way and even if you can’t participate more than one day, you’re welcome to join in on the fun!

GOALS

I wasn’t going to do another readathon so soon after the last one, but look at that little green demon. How can I resist a demon as cute as that? I simply can’t. I’ll try to participate in a couple of challenges and lurk at a Twitter chat and, of course, read as much as I can. With not too much other than work on my plate (but plenty of that), I’ll shoot for 600 pages.

READING MATERIALS

All of these are currently in progress. I wouldn’t mind finishing them up.

In Cold Blood by Truman Capote – for #NaNoReMo (starting at pg. 18)
Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold (starting at 67%) – Finished
Behind the Scenes with Mediums by David Phelps Abbott (starting at pg. 209)

Also some of the short works being considered for Hugo nomination, on the BSFA shortlist, or on the Stoker preliminary ballot. I also haven’t done my weekly reading of other stuff. So, some of that too.

Other:
A Study in Scarlett by Arthur Conan Doyle – Finished
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

Books: Finished  “The Adventure of the Lion’s Mane” by Arthur Conan Doyle (~5 pages), Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold (67%-80%, ~62 pages)
Writing work done: Took the day off.
Notes: I had an ultimate frisbee game in the evening, and spent some time playing EQ2. Became weirdly restless in the afternoon.

FRIDAY
Number of pages I’ve read today: ~123
Total number of pages I’ve read: ~190
Books: Carter Beats the Devil by Glen David Gold (80%-100%, ~96 pages), A Storm of Swords by George R. R. Martin (pg. 327-342, 15 pages), Elder Eddas (pg. 214-219, 5 pages), A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle (7 pages?)
Writing work done: None. *cough*
Notes: Just felt like reading today. And playing some EQ2.

SATURDAY
Number of pages I’ve read today: 5
Total number of pages I’ve read: ~195
Books: A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle (5 pages?)
Writing work done: Book research. Perused genealogy websites. Read more on organized crime in early 20th century Omaha, NE, especially gambling and prostitution.
Notes: Also played a bit of EQ2 and listened to one of the most boring basketball games ever (51 fouls and 73 freethrows).

SUNDAY
Number of pages I’ve read today: 17
Total number of pages I’ve read: ~212
Books: In Cold Blood by Truman Capote (pg. 18-30), A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle (5 pages?)
Writing work done: Did a little rewriting.
Notes: Still was in a EQ2 mood, also fought off a headache.

MONDAY
Number of pages I’ve read today: ~131
Total number of pages I’ve read: ~343
Books: A Study in Scarlet by Arthur Conan Doyle (100 pages?), Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (pg. 8-39, 31 pages)
Writing work done: Finished the first chapter of my rewrite and in to the second. 200+ more words thus far.
Notes: What I thought were page markings in my Kindle edition of A Study in Scarlet were not. All editions on Goodreads have 110+ pages. Estimating 117 is not unreasonable. I probably read more than 17 over the weekend and less than 100 today. Still haven’t participated in a challenge this readathon. I’ve been a bit publicly social, so not much has been left for online social.

TUESDAY
Number of pages I’ve read today: 54
Total number of pages I’ve read: ~397
Books: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (pg. 40-94, 54 pages)
Writing work done: Sent out queries for Luck for Hire and submitted one of my short pieces to a magazine. Worked on some rewriting.
Notes: Didn’t feel very good today. Slept a lot.

Total number of pages I’ve read: ~477
Books: Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (pg. 94-174), Selected Works by Mikhail Lermontov (pg. 38-43, 5 pages)
