For the month of December, join hosts Girlxoxo, Traveling with T and Estella’s Revenge for their annual #AMonthofFaves blog event—a fun way to recap the year that was. They have every day of the event (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) planned out, and you can join in anytime! More details.
Monday, Dec. 10th — A Day (or Weekend) in the Life. What did you do on Saturday, December 8th … or the weekend—December 8-9. Let’s take a peak into each others’ lives as as we chronicle what we all did on that day (or during the weekend).
I’ve always wanted to do a Day-in-the-Life tag. Why? I don’t know. It’s not like I have an exciting life. Despite this being the holiday season, Dec. 8th was an average Saturday for me. Which means, it was pretty quiet—just the way I like it.
07:24 – Woke up, took a shower.
07:50 – Coffee, morning pages. Nearly every morning for the past year, I’ve written three pages by hand first thing in the morning. I plan on talking more about this habit more on Wednesday (10/12).
08:25 – Breakfast: a turkey and cheddar on an English muffin. Also, I read my poem of the day, “Marriage” by William Carlos Williams. Then I dove into the internet. I checked in at:
- Habitica – This is my current to-do list productivity app of choice.
- Email accounts
- Facebook
- Tumblr
I read about the Nebraska/Creighton managers game and became distracted by the fog.
09:38 – Work. I’ve been trying to get a good hour of rewriting/editing/2nd drafting in before noon every day (but Sundays). Watched an episode of Carnivàle while working
10:49 – Social media check-in. Read:
- Reddit
- Feedly – (I’m not sure I had cleaned out my feedly in a few days.)
12:00 – Lunch: Grilled cheese sandwich, chips, a very large orange.
12:30 – Reading. I read my Deal Me In story of the week (“A Dark Brown Dog” by Stephen Crane) and 15 pages of Frankenstein. Btw, if you’re interested in reading more short stories in 2019, Deal Me In is a fun challenge. Jay will be posting about next year’s installment next week.
13:37 –It’s been a busy day, so it’s time for a nap. Actually, my afternoon naps have been going a little long lately. Must be the cool weather.
15:36 – Up from my nap and it’s time for the Nebraska/Creighton basketball game. University of Nebraska–Lincoln and Creighton are in-state rivals. The series has been favor of Creighton because Nebraska just hasn’t has a good basketball program, like, ever. But this year, the team is looking pretty good.
Since I don’t have a TV service or streaming services beyond Netflix, I listened to the game via internet radio. That’s okay, Kent Pavelka is one of the best play-by-play guys out there. As is also my habit, I played some EverQuest2 during the game.
18:33 – Game over! Nebraska wins!
18:55 – Eric got dinner, California burritos, from Los Favoritos. I took the opportunity while he was gone to vacuum and tidy-up.
19:45 – Worked on the Naughty or Nice tag. I tried watching a couple of things or listening to Christmas music, but nothing suited.
21:24 – Decided to do dishes and listen to a podcast. Podcast of choice was Decoder Ring.
22:25 – Social media check-ins. (Yes, it did take me an hour to do dishes. I don’t have a dishwasher and there were a couple pans from finishing leftovers the evening before.)
22:35 – Eric and I decided to go for a walk and check out the neighborhood Christmas lights. Some people don’t consider our neighborhood very safe. While I wouldn’t go around alone much after dark, we’ve never had any problems.
23:11 – Back from our walk, back to the internet. I luxuriate in articles like this one about Nebraska’s win.
00:16 – More rewriting & more Carnivàle
13:21 – I head to bed.
Yours sounds love a lovely relaxing weekend – just the way I like mine too! And thanks for sharing about Deal Me In … I definitely want to read more short stories next year
Sounds like an excellent weekend to me! I have “Why Monsters Haunt Christmas in Europe but Not America” open right now! Can’t wait to read it!
Okay — I have so many comments.
1) I’m looking forward to reading about your “three page a day” writing habit. It is intriguing 🙂
2) We don’t have cable or Netflix or anything so we mostly listen to our beloved Toronto Blue Jays baseball games on the radio. I have so much respect and love for radio sports announcers.
3) We also don’t have a dishwasher and I also spent a good portion of my Saturday doing dishes.
I love a relaxing weekend day. Sounds like you had a good one.
Can you share the link to the Naughty or Nice tag? I can’t click through it from the post.
Doh! My linking went a little haywire at the end there. 😬 Updated in the post and here as well: https://katenread.wordpress.com/2018/12/08/the-bookish-naughty-or-nice-tag/
Thank you!
My dishwasher went kaput about 6 weeks ago- I’m hoping that Santa brings me a new one.
I have not hear of the podcast- but I’m going to check it out. Always looking for a new podcast
