(A little rebranding for September & October)
Peril the First
Finished The Other and posted some thoughts about it. I’ve made some head-way on The Small Hand and Dolly by Susan Hill, but probably won’t finish it tomorrow as I originally planned. (I continually confuse Susan Hill and Sarah Waters…) I went to the library on Tuesday and checked out Dive Deeper: Journeys with Moby-Dick by George Cotkin and Poe’s Children: The New Horror, edited by Peter Straub.
Dive Deeper is a book of short tangents for each chapter of Moby-Dick. I’m 36-ish chapters into the novel, but I should be able to catch up with the essays in a few weeks. Poe’s Children is an anthology and I haven’t decided whether I want to read it straight through or pick and choose.
Peril on the Screen
I finished watching the first season of The Terror. The book had been on my TBR for a long while and I’d heard good things about the series. It is a very well made series, beautifully shot and well-acted. Plot-wise? I wasn’t such a fan of the supernatural element. This probably just means I’ve become a fuddy-duddy who would rather watch a documentary, but I feel like the awfulness of the historic situation is undercut by an occasional supernatural problem.
Oh Perilous World
Short update; not much going on rather than autumnal temperatures and playing a little too much Minecraft.
