2018 Nonfiction Reading Challenge

hosted by Doing Dewey

Rather than suggest particular levels for this challenge, I’ve got a couple ideas for different nonfiction reading goals you could set for yourself.

Read X% nonfiction

Read nonfiction in certain categories

I’m going for a double-up goal. First, I’d like to read at least 25% nonfiction in 2018. Second, I’d like to read eight books from the following “Research” list. These are books about magic, Omaha, and crime. There are twelve books on this list, three overlap with my TBR challenge.

  1. A Dirty, Wicked Town: Tales of 19th Century Omaha by David L. Bristow – READ
  2. Thieves, Rascals, and Sore Losers by Marilyn June Coffey – READ
  3. Here Is Real Magic by Nate Staniforth – READ
  4. …Memoirs and Confessions of a Stage Magician by Don & Joyce Brandon – READ
  5. Eyeing the Flash: The Making of a Carnival Con Artist by Peter Fenton – READ
  6. The Science of Illusions by Jacques Ninio – READ
  7. The Life and Many Deaths of Harry Houdini by Ruth Brandon – DNF
  8. River City Empire by Orville D. Menard (reread)
  9. Houdini and Conan Doyle by Christopher Sanford – READ
  10. A Magician’s Tour by Harry Kellar
  11. Twenty Years a Detective by Clifton R Woodridge
  12. The Spirit Portrait Mystery & The Marvelous Creations of Joseffy by David P. Abbott (reread)
